On Friday, 21 August 2020, the Legal Committee of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA) condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ raid into Makassed Hospital, the largest Palestinian hospital in occupied Jerusalem. There, the forces fired tear gas canisters inside the hospital corridors in a brutal and inhuman manner and attacked the workers and those present, putting the lives of dozens of patients and medical staffers at a risk.

In a statement delivered to Pal Abroad, the Legal Committee stressed that the Israeli attack is a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilians in Time of War of 1949, and amounts to a war crime according to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The Committee called on the international community to adhere to its responsibilities in putting an end to the ongoing and systematic crimes of the Israeli occupation, which are practiced on a daily basis, violating Palestinian human rights.

It is noteworthy that eyewitnesses reported that the Israeli occupation forces raided the hospital, threw tear gas canisters inside a number of its wards, and wreaked havoc, aiming at its equipment assaulting the staff and those present.
