The Prisoners’ Support Committee of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA) warned against the deteriorating health and humanitarian conditions in the Israeli occupation’s prisons, in the wake of the death of the prisoner Daoud al-Khatib on Wednesday 2, 2020, who passed away due to a heart attack.

The committee held the Israeli occupation accountable for al-Khatib’s death, attributing it to intentional medical negligence practiced by the prison authorities against Palestinian prisoners, which so far caused the death of 225 prisoners, who passed away due to negligence, violent torture or murder.

The committee demanded that an investigation be run as to find the details of al-Khatib’s death and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian prisoners according to the international laws and the Geneva Conventions.

The committee also demanded that the international human rights organizations press the Israeli occupation to release patient, child and women detainees, given the COVID-19 outbreak which puts to risk the lives of these prisoners while the prison authorities are reluctant to combat the virus within prisons.
