On Monday, May 18, 2020 — the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad / PCPA held a Zoom lecture titled: “The Future of the Zionist Project,” which was opened by Mr. Ahmad Masha’al, member of PCPA’s General Secretariat and head of its national Relations’ Committee, and presented by Dr. Ahmad Noufel, head of the Union of Academic Palestinians.

The Zionist movement, Dr. Noufel pointed out, has so far failed to bring together all Jews in Palestine, who spread across the world, while their number in the U.S. exceeds that in Palestine, as they have been opting for reveres migration.

Dr. Noufel also posed the following question, was the Zionist movement capable of realizing what it planned through assembling the Jews in Palestine? Given that it did not only seek to create a Zionist entity, but also it aimed to turn it into a gathering point for Jews from different parts of the world.

"The Zionist movement tried to spread a propaganda among the Jews around the world that this place (Palestine) is the safe place for all the Jews of the world after many years of racial discrimination against them in their countries of residence. However, the Jews who came to Palestine did not find safety in this place,” he added.

Noufel, furthermore, believes that had the Zionist movement foreseen the resistance that has been meeting its project by the Palestinian people for seventy years after the occupation, "it would had thought of different regions other than Palestine.”

He explained: "No state or entity of those founded after the Second World War is so far unrecognized or the object of wishes demanding its obliteration. All other states have been settled except the Zionist entity, which existence is yet resisted and rejected.”

Noufel listed the risks and reasons that will contribute to the failure and demise of the Zionist entity, based on studies and researches by Zionist universities and researchers, which depict the future of the Zionist entity and project in Palestine.

"The Zionist society is decaying, for the movement failed to create homogeneity between Jews coming from different regions of the world, causing instability, such as contradictions between Western and Eastern Jews, problems between the two parties, conflicts between the left and right and between the religious and the secular. These contradictions are an important issue, because it impacted not only the political parties but also society and its structure,” he added.

Noufel pointed to Zionist studies which agree in content, indicating that the Zionist entity is about to collapse and that it is on the brink of the abyss for several reasons, including that "Israel" has not yet achieved stability "for the Israeli individual" or for the Jewish who immigrated to Palestine, nor homogeneity within this society, as well as due to the fact that the Zionist ideology that was stimulating immigration to Palestine began to lose its hold.

Noufel indicated that the Palestinian demographic danger constitutes the second risk to the Zionist project, because the Zionist movement "has always said that Palestine is a land without a people for a people without a land, and now it has become clear that the Palestinians after these years have amounted to an equal number of Jews present in historical Palestine, and the Zionist movement has not been able to expel all Palestinians. Accordingly, as the Palestinian continues to exist, he/she is a demographic bomb within Israeli society.”

The third danger is, however, the resistance with which the Palestinian is combating this project. On this note, he said: "The Zionist movement is not fortunate that it came to Palestine. If it went to any region in the world, the resistance would have lasted for 20-30 years and ended, but in Palestine the resistance began before the Zionist occupation and is still raging, the best manifestation of which is the marches of return.”

Noufel noted that the continuation of the resistance is a major cause that the Zionists feel destabilized in Palestine, especially since the resistance was expected to disappear after the Oslo agreement. Contrastingly, the resistance increased and the Palestinian people rejected the occupier, and the Zionist movement here "could not end the resistance, and whenever it tried to eliminate a type of resistance that threatens its existence, a new type emerges threatening it again.”

The fourth threat to the Zionist entity and its loss of cohesion, according to Noufel, is the corruption within it, lurking at high-profile levels, "as is now the case with the presence of a Zionist Prime Minister accused of corruption cases, and the arrest of officials, including the former head of the entity on charges of corruption and bribery.”

"The symbols that previously existed in the Israeli society are no longer present, and this has led to a massive raft within the Israeli society. The Zionist youth no longer believe in the Zionist leadership,” he added.

Among the reasons that also led up to the failure of the Zionist project is "the collapse of the Zionist army’s myth in Gaza and other regions. This army failed to resolve military battles it waged," according to Noufel.

Noufel stressed that "the Palestinian cause is a sacred one, which is an Arab and Islamic cause, and every Palestinian should work for it and not despair of the attempts seeking to normalize relations between some Arab regimes and the Zionist occupation. The Palestinian people are a devoted nation, moving towards the liberation of its homeland.”
